Grandaddy - Sumday (2003)
Sumday fue el tercer disco de estudio que sacó Jason Lytle y compañía como Grandaddy. Si bien Sumday representó un cambio en el estilo de la banda, creando atmósferas más calmadas, lejos de las guitarras fuertes y de los computadores, lo cierto es que Grandaddy supo organizar sus canciones idealmente, como pocos. En el medio, para resonar Lost in yer merry way, a mi gusto, el gran tesoro. Esa canción resume todo Sumday y su bipolaridad, la calma y la agresividad, cambios sutiles dentro de la alegría que irradia el disco. Se diría que esto es pop casi perfecto, melodías pegadizas. Algunos dijeron que Sumday no aportaba nada nuevo, que se perdía en la ambición y en la superficialidad. Puede ser, pero reconozcamos los méritos. En este torbellino nada importa, pasamos de una primera mitad alegre en su rudeza a The warming sun y The final push of the sun, canciones tristes, muy tristes. Historias de desamor de esas que nos sabemos de memoria. Y es ahí cuando se acaba el disco. Y todos nos quedamos con la boca abierta, no entendiendo nada de lo que acaba de suceder.
